Occasionally, Apple devices will have a hard time connecting to AirPlay.
Here are a few tips:
Do you see other devices besides the Cynap in your room you are trying to connect to?
If so, try restarting the Cynap. If you still do not see the Cynap after restarting, contact the emergency line for the OIT HelpDesk at 865-974-9110 and ask them to enable AirPlay on the Cynap. Remember, you can also connect to the Cynap using a wired connection by plugging into the HDMI cable.
If you do not see other devices on AirPlay:
Check with another iPhone, iPad, or MacBook to see if anyone else in the class can see devices on AirPlay. If they can see other devices, then restart your Mac, iPhone, iPad and ensure AirPlay is on (see below for restarting a Mac.) If no one else can see other AirPlay devices, call the OIT HelpDesk at the emergency number 865-974-9110.
Restart Your Mac
Restarting a MacBook is more than just closing the lid.
Make sure you go to:
- Apple Menu in the upper left corner
- Choose Restart.
Ensure the AirPlay Icon is turned on by going to:
- Apple Menu in the upper left corner
- Choose System Preferences
- Choose Displays
- Ensure Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available is selected.
- Turn AirPlay Display to on.

If you are unable to get AirPlay working quickly during class, contact the OIT HelpDesk online or by phone at 865-974-9900 and request a consultation.
